Carp to Croc Fishing Competition 2025

C2C

Central Coast Council invites you to fish with a cause and participate in the inaugural Carp to Croc Fishing Competition. Carp are one of the most destructive invasive species in Australia’s freshwater systems, degrading water quality and outcompeting native fish. Carp to Croc is your chance to help restore our local waterways—while ensuring your catch is put to good use.

How It Works

We’re encouraging the community to fish for Carp from local waterways such as Wyong River. Take part in the competition by capturing your catches via the Fish Donkey App between 5 April - 5 May 2025.  To introduce the fishing competition, there will be a launch event on April 5 with talks from experts and a Carp cooking demonstration!

Launch Event

Join us for the launch event at Wyong Milk Factory, where you’ll enjoy a fun-filled day of fishing, cooking demonstrations, and expert talks before the month-long fishing competition kicks off.

  • Saturday 5th April 2025: 10am - 1pm
  • Wyong Milk Factory (141 Alison Rd Wyong)
  • Fishing, electrofishing & rod rigging demonstrations
  • Carp cooking showcase – taste it if you dare!
  • Talks from experts at OzFish, BCF, Central Coast Council, DPI, WaterNSW & more
  • Exciting prizes, giveaways & activities for all ages—including a fishing kayak, Australian Reptile Park Family Experience, and a BCF voucher!

You do not need to register or buy tickets to attend the launch event!

Fishing Competition

We are encouraging the community to participate in a muster style fishing competition, targeting invasive Carp. The fishing competition is run through the Fish Donkey app and runs from 5th April - 5th May. Prizes will be awarded for certain categories. Participants must register below by clicking "Register Here" below with more specific information to be found in the Fish Donkey app!

What to do with the Carp you catch:

  • Cook it at home – get inspired by our cooking demonstrations at the launch event or test some recipes from the Local Land Services Carp Recipe E-Book
  • Drop it off at BCF Tuggerah – your catch will be frozen and transported to the Australian Reptile Park for them to use as crocodile and alligator food!
  • Wrap it in newspaper, freeze it, then dispose of in the red lid bin as close to bin collection day as possible.
